In 2003 we opened the doors of the first UCT martial arts Academy in Amsterdam Noord. The UCT Academy in Amsterdam Noord was the first of the now eleven schools in the Netherlands. In recent years we have developed various programs for different martial arts, such as Practical Wing Chun, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Escrima and the popular kids program Jing Wu Kids. We also offer various corporate training programs.
The philosophy has remained unchanged all along: a healthy mind in a healthy body.
More information for each program below:
The main goal of the Practical Wing Chun system is to teach the most practical self-defense possible to students. Apart from the self-defense aspect, at the UCT Academy in Amsterdam, much attention is also paid to the students’ mental resilience, health and for their overall fitness level. The classes are led by Sifu Benno Wai.
Through two of his closest personal friends in the world of Wing Chun, Sifu Martin Brogaard and Sifu Pui Yee, he came into contact with GM Wan Kam Leung in 2007. GM Wan Kam Leung is widely regarded as the best Wing Chun practitioner of our time (regardless of lineages) Immediately after becoming acquainted with GM Wan Kam Leung, Sifu Benno Wai was accepted by him as a private apprentice and since then he (Sifu Benno) has been visiting GM Wan Kam Leung two to three times a year in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, Sifu Benno Wai has also mastered the Practical Wing Chun system. Siu Nim Tao, Cham Kiu, Biu Jee, Mok Yan Chong, Luk Dim Poon Kwan, Bart Cham Dao and the Iron Shirt Hei Gung (Qi Gong, Chi Kung) developed especially for Wing Chun.
With this, Sifu Benno Wai has joined a very small select group of Practical Wing Chun Masters.
One of the most popular programs at the UCT Academy in Amsterdam. The programs for children are entirely focused on helping your child improve their motor skills in a way that is related to the martial arts. The program is designed to give your child a varied view of the martial arts in general and the moral values that go with it. Your child will learn in a playful manner to become more resilient. In addition, we also work on:
As it is known that MMA is becoming increasingly popular in the world of martial arts, we at UCT International do not offer MMA training, but we do offer the ultimate system that MMA uses when the fight ends on the ground, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. For years, Team UCT has been a well-known Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team led by coaches Pele Nguyen (Multiple BJJ champion at international BJJ tournaments) and Benno Wai in the Netherlands. A team where technique is paramount and where training conditions are created for injury free training in a pleasant environment. Besides training with the Gi, there are also weekly trainings in the field of Submission Grappling, the part where we train without the Gi. .
Over the years, unfortunately, it has come out strongly that there are more and more armed conflicts where striking and stabbing weapons are used. Often this happens when the victim himself has no weapon. Again, we offer an effective way of “arming” yourself against this type of aggression. The ACE (Armed Combat Essentials) program was created for this purpose. The program is largely based on the Escrima Concepts curriculum developed by GM Steve Tappin. In addition, it is supplemented by the AMOK weapon system of Tom Sotis.
At the UCT Academies, we have had ‘Cross Fit boxes’ created for personal Strength and Conditioning training sessions. These ‘boxes’ are open to members of the Academies, but are primarily used to offer 1 on 1 training sessions by our FSC (functional strength and conditioning) coaches. We offer customized packages completely tailored to the needs of the participant (or in some cases small group of participants).
