THE RECENT RISE IN VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN SHOWS JUST HOW IMPORTANT RESILIENCE AND SELF-PROTECTION ARE TODAY!



In recent times, we’ve seen more and more disturbing reports about violence against women — even here in Amsterdam. From harassment on the street to physical assaults on public transport or during a night out; these incidents affect us all. What once felt like something that happened “somewhere else” now hits much closer to home. Especially in a big city like Amsterdam, where people live so close together, it’s more important than ever that women not only feel safe, but also are safe — and resilient.

Resilience goes far beyond physical strength. It starts with posture, awareness, and confidence. Knowing how to set boundaries, recognizing potentially dangerous situations early on, and knowing how to stay in control — these are skills every woman should have. But sometimes, mental strength alone isn’t enough. There are moments when you need to be able to act physically.

And that’s where proper training makes all the difference.

At UCT Academy in Amsterdam Noord, we specialize in practical self-defense and personal protection. We don’t train people to fight — we train them to protect themselves, effectively and realistically. Our lessons focus on real-life situations: a sudden attack on the street, someone trying to grab you, or even a confrontation involving a weapon.

Our instructors combine different disciplines to create a complete and realistic system. Through our UCT (Ultimate Combat Training) approach, you’ll learn how to defend yourself while standing — against one or multiple attackers, armed or unarmed. In addition, our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) experts teach you what to do if the fight goes to the ground — because the reality is, many confrontations end up there.

What makes our approach unique is that we don’t just focus on technique — we focus on mindset. We work on building your confidence, awareness, and ability to stay calm under pressure. Many women who train with us notice the difference after just a few sessions: they stand taller, move with more certainty, and carry that strength into their daily lives.

The world is changing, and unfortunately, not always for the better. But that doesn’t mean we’re powerless. Resilience is something you can learn and develop. Every woman deserves to feel safe — on the street, at work, or simply on her way home.
