TWENT YEARS OF UCT INTERNATIONAL KUNG FU

TWENT YEARS OF UCT INTERNATIONAL KUNG FU

On July 2, we celebrated our twentieth anniversary at our Kung Fu Academy in Amsterdam with members from our Kung Fu locations in Leeuwarden, Drachten, Zwolle, Uithoorn, Amstelveen, Lelystad, Almere and Amsterdam who had come to celebrate and train at the same time under the leadership of Sifu Benno Wai and Sifu Pele Nguyen assisted by Sifu Anton Offermans (among others). Almere), Sifu Menno Frieswijk (Leeuwarden), Sifu Kenneth Lee (Uithoorn | Amstelveen) and Sifu Ryan Valdivieso. The Topic of this seminar was Kam Na (manipulating the joints) standing and on the floor (Kimura)

After Sifu Benno Wai started the first Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy in Amsterdam North in 2003, several schools were soon added, with Sifu Pele’s being the first in Almere. Since that time, Sifu Benno traveled several times a year to Hong Kong and China to train directly under GM Wan Kam Leung for Practical Wing Chun (which is taught as the standard at the UCT Schools), GM Yao Cheng Rong for Yi Quan (which is only taught during the Xin Fa Nei Gong classes or through private lessons by Sifu Benno Wai), GM Lee Kong for the Fukien White Crane (only taught privately by Sifu Benno) and GM Wang Ahn Lin in Wen Shen Quan. To this day he is still improving himself, gaining more knowledge in order to teach his Kung Fu students as best as possible, mainly in Wing Chun Kung Fu but also the ‘internal’ styles that are taught. at the UCT Academy Amsterdam.

During this ‘Gathering’ two new Sifus were also appointed, the first was Michiel Contant who has been teaching at the Lelystad location for a few years and who has molded the curriculum of the Practical Wing Chun that is given at the UCT Schools into two books (Sifu Nim Tao and Cham Kiu) and where the Third Book is on the Way (Biu Jee) These books give students an easy to follow reference of what is being taught at the Wing Chun Kung Fu schools. The second to become Sifu this day was Antony Housley. Antony has managed to build up a large group of enthusiastic students in Zwolle in no time.

All in all it was a great day!
